Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Smart Operations team is seeking a Staff OT Automation Engineer to support IoT software platform as part of our Operations IT organization. This individual will plan, design, and/or implement efficient IT and business system solutions for new product introductions and optimization of manufacturing operations.

This role is responsible for the development, improvement, and design of automation systems for manufacturing processes to ensure standardization and harmonization of data collection to support scalable solutions and applications related to digital shopfloor management.

A day in the Life:

  • Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products, and/or procedures

  • Enhance efficiency by analyzing automation system composition, communication, logic, and workforce utilization

  • Determine hardware, software, and network architecture necessary to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications and compatibility with integrated applications

  • Collaborate with Engineering teams at global sites to develop and streamline production process in automating the new and existing system by harmonizing and using technologies such as PTC ThingWorx and QAD RedZone

  • Lead and support troubleshooting of shopfloor equipment and systems to ensure a robust manufacturing ecosystem for implementation of shopfloor management applications

  • Coordinate engineering activities to implement the automation part of strategic investment projects

  • Partner with Business Lead and IT Architect to support project teams in designing, developing, and improving process automation with IT-supported applications

  • Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures and objectives regarding processes, initiatives, and projects

  • Act as a change agent and mentor to bring new technologies, techniques and principles for software engineering excellence

Keys to Success:

Education

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent 5+ years of qualified experience

Experience

  • 5+ years in experience in automation engineering and IT/OT solution design in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Delta-V, and Schneider platforms

  • Technical knowledge of automation, controls, instrumentation, batch programming, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), IT and OT networks and technologies

  • Experience with HMI programming and UI building

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with PTC ThingWorx, QAD Redzone, or similar asset modeling software

  • Equipment integration experience using IoT, OPC and/or PTC Kepware

  • Solid understanding of ISA and IEE Standards and Industry Code as it relates to Chemical, Pharmaceutical facilities or related facilities

  • Life Science or Biotechnology industry background is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $103,100.00–$135,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
