Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Security Management team.

In this role you will be responsible for leading the development of host-based agents and cloud-based services aimed at automatically enforcing security policy and configuration of both Azure-based PaaS and SaaS services, as well as IaaS based services on Windows and Linux. We place particular focus on helping teams mitigate against practical, real-world attacks based on an understanding of adversary techniques, tools, and procedures.

Beyond just building services and tool, you’ll be looked to as a technical leader on the team, supporting the growth a development of other engineers, and playing a role in solving large architectural problems fundamental to solving security challenges at cloud-scale.

Responsibilities

Primary duties:

• Play a leading role in the design, implementation, and running of security agents and associated backend services to deliver features that keep Microsoft 365 secure at microservices scale

• Contribute as a technical leader on a team of motivated and passionate engineers, mentoring, coaching, and supporting teammates, and creating a highly collaborative environment

• Identify, design, and build new features to support the application of security policy to cloud based services, products, and infrastructure

• Step in as needed to drive and lead team planning, design, and architectural activities

• Work closely with internal research teams to identify and understand discrete threats to online services

• Deliver impact while fostering impactful and inclusive collaboration with engineering teams and partner teams across Microsoft

Key roles and responsibilities include but not limited to :

  • Security Management: Responsible for leading the development of host-based agents and cloud-based services aimed at automatically enforcing security policy and configuration of both Azure-based PaaS and SaaS services, as well as IaaS based services on Windows.   • Security Assessment: Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a data platform at cloud-scale aimed at providing information needed to enforce security policy and improve the security posture of Microsoft’s services. We place focus on helping teams identify issues and mitigate practical, real-world attacks based on an understanding of adversary techniques, tools, and procedures.

  • Access Control and Protection: Responsible for designing, building and maintaing technical stack for authentication, secret management, just-in-time elevation and just-enough access control, protecting engineering systems and infracture. We enforce security policy through engineering solutions and provide vital signals throughout services for data privacy, audit and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience

. 3+ years of experience with standard OO patterns and design methodologies

. 3+ years of experience with foundational Azure or other Cloud services

Other Requirements:

. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

. Experience leading the design, implementation, and operation of highly scalable, backend web services

. Solid technical problem solving and communication skills, both verbal and written

. Consistent experience mentoring developers and a track record of developing team culture and growth

. Consistent experience contributing to team planning, estimation, and prioritization

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
