Application Deadline: June 10, 2024 U.S. Citizenship is required for employment JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION Provides radiological support coverage for maintenance, operational, and routine work that involves radioactive materials. Provides monitoring for Radiation, Contamination, and Airborne Radioactivity, in the work-place as required by Radiological program procedures and 10 CFR 835. This level technician is considered skilled/fully proficient. Expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problem Education/Experience: * High School education with courses in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or GED equivalency. * Requires a minimum of five (3) years related experience or GED equivalency. * Must be DOE RCT Core qualified or equivalent. * Subject to shift work * Personal Protective Clothing * Respirator Qualified * Asbestos Worker Certification / DOE Core RCT Qualification / Respirator Wearer Demonstrated ability to plan and support high-hazard radiological work including working knowledge of the basis and use of engineered controls (e.g., localized ventilation, temporary shielding, and containment devices). Extensive demonstrated experience and technical working knowledge in radiation protection principles and practices. Extensive demonstrated experience in radiation monitoring, personnel exposure control and other operational health physics activities. Working knowledge of applicable Department of Energy (DOE) orders and/or NRC regulations. Demonstrated fully proficient experience in the use of protective clothing and respiratory protective equipment. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and work ethic including reliability as an independent worker, as a team member, and as a mentor of less-skilled RCTs. Proficient written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability and desire to assume ownership and responsibility or assigned projects, areas, and tasks. Must be able to obtain and maintain D.O.E. Access authorization. Must be able to successfully complete biannual Oral Boards. Must be able to successfully complete the training requirements of the Sr. Radiological Control Technician. Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all other qualifications deemed necessary. Working knowledge of various computer software including Microsoft Office. Must be able to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 badge which requires an Office of Personnel Management (OPM) background investigation, OPM clearance for this badge is required 1. Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. 2. Adhere to standards contained in the Company "Code of Conduct," Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. 3. Reviews complicated and/or advanced radiation surveys/conditions to help develop new techniques and/or procedures to increase efficiency. 4. Acts in lead role in training of RCTs for safe operating procedures, radiation work permits, and facility design. 5. Completes specialized tasks/projects, which are usually a part of the total design of a project and require substantially more technical depth and result in solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious. 6. Frequently communicates with line management to provide solutions to complex technical problems associated with specific projects. 7. Recommends and assists with development of a plan for appropriate corrective measures with the customers. 8. Monitors the effectiveness of any corrective measure taken to ensure compliance with requirements and limits.
