University of Virginia Instructor in Spanish in Wise, Virginia

The Department of Language and Literature at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites applications for an Instructor of Spanish. The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment with the potential for annual renewal and promotion to Senior Instructor after six years of full-time service. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other faculty in Spanish to teach a 4-4 load of lower-level Spanish courses that serve the College's Liberal Arts Core foreign language requirement. Additional duties include serving the Department and College on committees and organizing extracurricular activities for students.

Successful candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Spanish at the time of appointment and excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. Candidates should have experience teaching Spanish at the college or secondary level and demonstrated ability to engage and innovate, employing pedagogies that seek to develop communicative and intercultural competence. Preference will be given to candidates who can articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission and have experience and/or express specific interest in mentoring first-generation college students.
